With winter right around the corner, the fabric of your suiting becomes ever the more important. Out go the cotton and linen blends and in comes the wool. As a natural fabric, a well tailored wool suit provides you with the warmth needed to beat the cold this winter, while looking sharp! Fabric aside, color is another biggie. Traditionally, you’d go light during the spring and summer and darker during fall and winter. However, with the right mix you could still go light this season. Personally, I like going darker and dressing the weather and mood — think: navy, black, or charcoal grey. With fabric and color in mind, this Italian wool suit from Banana Republic was an immediate favorite for this forthcoming season. It’s a slimmer, more custom fit, and required no outside tailoring on my part to take in the jacket or pants — that’s huge! This suit is made to wear and will comfortably keep you looking dapper from the office to dinner.

Last week marked 20 years for Banana Republic (BR) and I had the opportunity to celebrate with some of their Canadian team at their Toronto Flagship store, and meet BR’s SVP, Michael Anderson. It was a fun night and getting some of Michael’s insight on BR and their suiting was very cool. I had the chance to ask him what made BR so successful these past 20 years and to paraphrase, he mentioned: “Our success stems from economical pricing for quality products”. Further to that, he mentioned that another success factor was the customer’s ability of mixing BR with other high and low pieces among their wardrobe. Towards the end of our conversation, he mentioned that it would be exciting to have their suiting ‘made to measure’ with the possibilities of an in-house tailor at store locations — exciting indeed. It’s been a brand that I’ve grown with and continue to grow with and so, I wish Banana Republic a Happy 20th and plenty more to come!
